Gaming Mouse: Logitech G102(203) Prodigy

A gaming mouse is like a regular mouse with additional functions meant for computer gaming and graphic designing. These functions include programmable buttons, higher sensitivity, weight adjustment and faster response times. Gaming mouses are also designed more ergonomically than regular mice, making them comfortable to use even after hours of usage. They are more durable than regular mice as well, making them last longer.

These functions allow the user quicker reactions and comfortable movements. The user will get the precision that he needs.

Today we will be talking about the Logitech G102 prodigy, also known as the Logitech G203.

Programmable Buttons:

This mouse comes with 6 programmable buttons (left click button, right click button, mouse wheel, dpi button, and 2 side buttons). These buttons can be programmed according to the use via the official Logitech software called Logitech G Hub.

DPI:

DPI stands for Dots Per Inch. This relates to the sensitivity of the mouse. When you move the mouse, it detects by how much you have moved it, and matches the cursor accordingly. The higher the dpi, even with less movement of your wrist your cursor will shift more.
Low DPI settings are used for fine control, like working at super-fine pixel editing in photo or video editing.
High DPI settings are useful for fast movements, like fps shooter games where you are required to flick your mouse from one end of the screen to another in a split second. They are also really useful for large monitors or multiple monitors at high resolutions grouped together. With higher dpi it won't be tiresome to move from one part of the screen to another.

The average regular mouse has a DPI of 1000DPI. The Logitech G102 has a DPI ranging from 200DPI to 8000DPI. DPI can be customized via the G Hub software, and a dedicated DPI button is present to change to various presets set in the G Hub software.

Polling Rate/ Report Rate/ Response Time:

Polling Rate refers to how often the mouse is looking for and reporting input. The higher the value, the more responsive your mouse is. The cursor gives a more precise and smoother feeling on the screen. Polling rate is measured in Hertz (Hz). Regular mice have a polling rate of 125Hz.  The Logitech G102 has 4 options for setting the polling rate via the G Hub: 125Hz, 250Hz, 500Hz, and 1000Hz.

Sensors:

There are two types of sensors. They are Optical sensors and Laser sensors. Laser sensors are said to be more accurate and have faster response times. The Logitech G102 has a mercury optical sensor.

Lighting:

Gaming mice have multi colored lights on them to make them look more premium. They can also be used as indicators, for example, if a computer's battery is full the mouse will glow with a green light, while a low battery will make it turn to red.
The Logitech G102 supports 16.8M colors of RGB lighting, which covers the entire range of the  RGB color spectrum. The lighting can be customized via the G Hub.

Design and Comfort:

Most gaming mice are ergonomically designed so as to allow the user to use the mouse extensively without any issues. However mouse design depends on the user's preference and the way the user holds the mouse. There are 3 types of ways mice are held by users. They are known as Palm Grip, Claw Grip and Fingertip Grip.
In palm grip, the entire hand rests on the mouse. In claw grip, the palm is resting on the mouse while the fingers are arched such that the index and middle finger are perpendicular to the mouse surface. In fingertip grip only the tip of the fingers are touching the mouse.

The Logitech G102 is best suited for users having palm grip, however because of it's light weight (83g) and small size even claw grip and fingertip grip users should be comfortable using the mouse. The mouse is ambidextrous, which means that it has a shape by which both left handed people as well as right handed people can use it. However because of the side button positioning, it is best preferred for right handed people.
